How about the resignation of the Central Bank Governor?

Edward Scicluna and Joseph Muscat

Despite the Health Minister’s signature on the public contract with Steward, it was, in fact, the Finance Minister of that time who was supposed to protect the public treasury from these fraudulent deals, given that he was the technical person in government who allowed the government financing of the projects with Vitals and Steward.

The Finance Minister of that time, Edward Scicluna was later rewarded with the post of Central Governor, in Malta considered as a retirement desk-job for veteran bureaucrats and politicians. His post has enabled him to avoid any public scrutiny but Scicluna has a lot to answer for, especially after the courts already considered the contracts with Vitals and Steward as fraudulent.

Edward Scicluna has always claimed that he was never part of Joseph Muscat’s kitchen cabinet. This was true and he was never part of Joseph Muscat’s corrupt schemes, yet his weakness and complacency helped enable them. He was never the type to complain or pro-actively oppose something, and simply went along treating his position as Minister more like a civil-service job rather than a political position. He basically allowed Joseph Muscat to do whatever he wanted, and unless he cares to defend himself, which he has not done so far, owing to his position, there is no other narrative about his story at this point.
