There’s nothing wrong with making lots of money if you do it without stealing or destroying the country

Robert Abela

Perceptions about money, profit and capitalism, have been warped, abused and distorted to a great extent after decades of rampant rent-seeking, Jungle Rules and impunity. There’s nothing wrong in making lots of money and big profits, only that in Malta we have been accustomed with the idea that riches and big profits come from the grace of excessive government subsidies, rent-seeking and corruption.

We don’t even have a free and regular markets in Malta especially in the sectors where people make a lot of money, such as the construction industry which is beset by a rent-seeking structure that allows those who break the law to get ahead: case in point is Joseph Portelli who for many years perfected his Jungles Rules tactic of “build now, regularise later”.

Making more money will help us improve the country and the State, apart from investing more in education and culture.

Actually, we need to make a lot of money and bigger profits given that we are now forced to pay back Miriam Dalli’s mammoth debt she is leaving us behind. She also expects us to be thankful.

“Coordinated attack”.
