Egyptian President Al-Sisi tells the Gazans to stay in Gaza

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has told Gazans that they should remain in Gaza for the sake of the Palestinian cause. The statement comes after pressure from the US on both Egypt and Israel to collaborate together on the opening of the Rafah Crossing. Egypt has long refused to open the Rafah Crossing fearing it would have to take responsibility for up to 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. The Egyptian people share a strong hatred for Jews and Israel but the Egyptian government has long dropped its advocacy for the Palestinian people, preferring instead to remove itself completely from the conflict and normalise ties with Israel.
