
Food inflation is still strong in Malta with the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices giving a 5.6% increase in prices during the month of July and food prices going up by 10% as compared with last year.
Also, I hope that politicians do understand the meaning of these statistics. Inflation is slowing down, but there is still relatively strong inflation and we are still far away from the 2% target of the central banks. So, I hope that politicians understand that when they read the headline “Inflation is lower” it doesn’t mean that prices of goods are lower, it means that the prices of goods are increasing at a slower pace.
