President of the EU Parliament Roberta Metsola, has visited Kiev today, in what seems to be the highest-level EU visit to the Ukrainian capital, so far since the war started. Metsola is going beyond the prescribed German boundaries in her interpretation of the application of European values. I’m sure that her German colleagues who got her into power are a bit insecure about her hawkish stance on energy, security and rule of law. I like her for this reason. She is inscribing her own political discourse in European politics at a time when Europe lacks leadership and desperately needs it. Note her choice of wear for the meeting. Clearly, she doesn’t seem to be in the Putin appeasement camp.
